Sea shipowner - the most important information

kontenery na statkuThe shipping company is a sea carrier and its sea transport is today an important form of transport of goods and people, and although there is still a lot of it to stay ahead of land or air transport, its role - historical and social - is unforgettable. However, the whole thing could not function so smoothly over the centuries if ship owners and sailors did not create specific groups (companies) whose task was not only to travel together through dangerous seas, but also to provide greater protection.

Only those vessels that had their own shipowner could belong to such groups, i.e. a person who built a ship from their own income or bought it back, equipped it with the necessary equipment, and then paid fees for the water transport of people. Less frequently in the past, the shipowner was called the actual owner of the ship, and this was a vocabulary used mainly in southern Europe. Today, when we talk about a shipowner, we usually mean a large company that has a couple or a dozen different ships under it: used in trade for the transport of goods, in the transport of people or in the service of tourists. Currently, the shipping company is also a private person or a company which is legally responsible in civil matters for the ship it uses or rents: it is the company that is responsible for any damage, accidents and sinking of the ship.

Today, this concept is much more often applied to people or companies that sublet or lease their units to another entity, for example, who wants to transport a product to another country. In such a situation, the lessor should ensure the transport of his goods to the port, usually by outsourcing it to an external forwarder, and only there the shipowner takes care of its loading onto the ship. It often happens that the shipping company is also a freight forwarder and deals with services provided by a customs agency. It is a great help for the client, because the necessary formalities can then be carried out with one company, without worrying about unnecessary documentation and looking for separate contractors for each of the services.
